What is Glycol 99.5%, 100% BioBased made from?
100% BioBased Glycol is produced via our manufacturer's proprietary process from glycerin; a co-product produced from vegetable oils during the manufacture of biodiesel or fatty acids. Glycerin is a vegetable oil derived product that contains plant extracted carbon, 100% BioBased.
What certifications does Glycol 99.5% uphold?
Ingredient Depot’s PG 99.5% meets food grade requirements, is Kosher certified from our manufacturer, and is an 100% BioBased product.
How does PG 99.5% compare to the widely used and commonly known PG, Glycol and Glycol?
Glycol 99.5% meets the same USP specifications as petroleum based Glycol 99.9%. The main difference is the 100% BioBased carbon content in this product. Traditionally, Glycol has been derived from Propylene Oxide, a petrochemical intermediate with no BioBased content.
Does the functionality, look, viscosity and smell differ from PG 99.9%?
PG 99.5% has the same molecular structure as petrochemical based Glycol 99.9%. Glycol 99.5% has a slightly yellowish colour, it holds the same viscosity and odour properties as PG 99.9%. Although they are similar, if not exactly the same, we cannot legally guarantee this claim.
Is your product natural?
It is impossible for any PG grade to make a claim to be “natural”. While the raw materials used in the manufacturing of 100% BioBased Glycol are naturally sourced BioBased products, Glycol itself is not a natural product because of the chemical conversion from one molecule to another.
